Harry is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger living in Exeter. After graduating from the University of Bristol, where he studied jazz flute and saxophone under Kevin Figes, he has pursued a freelance career in music and has performed across the South West and beyond. Highlights include playing at the Houses of Parliament and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Instilled with a love of music from a young age, Harry began his musical journey on the flute, and picked up the tenor saxophone as a teenager. Ever keen to explore the sounds of the world, Harry sought out playing opportunities throughout his studies, which made him the musician he is today. Harry focuses nowadays on tenor and soprano saxophones, flute, and EWI, whilst also doubling on clarinet, oboe and guitar.
Harry’s musical experience ranges from orchestras and jazz ensembles to party bands and theatre pits. Beyond his primary passion for jazz, he is proficient in many genres of music and finds inspiration from developing his craft.
As a composer and arranger, Harry leads the Harry Dowell Group, performing his original music. He has also written for orchestra, big band, wind orchestra, and various small ensembles.
